SETTLES THE INTRODUCTION'S 'NO LEGISLATURE SITTING IN DAMASCUS' CLAIM, AND DATES IT PRECISELY. Date of dissolution of the outgoing legislature: 13 March 2025. The Constitutional Declaration of March 2025 announced 'the abolition of both the Constitution and the 250-member People's Assembly (elected in July 2024)'. 'On 5 October 2025, indirect elections were held for 119 of the 140 seats. Indirect elections were not held in the provinces of Sweida (majority Druze), Hasakah and Raqqa'. Seats at stake 140; on 27 July 2025 the Supreme Committee said the number of seats would rise from 150 to 210 with the President appointing 70. THE DECISIVE FACT: the new parliament CONVENED ON 12 JULY 2026, and the Speaker was elected the same day. As at 18 July 2026 there were 22 women out of 206 members with 4 vacancies. CONSEQUENCE FOR THE INTRODUCTION. The first edition was published on 21 October 2025. At that date the old assembly had been dissolved seven months earlier and the new one had been ELECTED sixteen days earlier but had NOT SAT, and would not sit for another nine months. The claim that no legislature was sitting is therefore correct, and it is now datable rather than asserted. Any sentence must not imply that no assembly had been elected, because one had.
