CORRECTED AND NARROWED 15 August 2026 by the v6 diff review, findings B-2 and B-3. THIS ROW WAS WRONG TWICE AND THE PROSE COPIED IT BOTH TIMES. FIRST ERROR, NOW WITHDRAWN: this row said the reporting describes SPENDING rather than an agreed debt. IT DOES NOT. Iran International's headline is 'Syria Owes $50 Billion To Iran, Leaked Document Reveals' and its body gives 'the total amount of debt to Iran is estimated to be about $50 billion, though the document said the final amount is still being calculated'. The reporting calls it a debt. I asserted the opposite in the direction that suited the chapter, wrote it here first, and the prose then reproduced it, so neither could catch the other. SECOND ERROR, NOW FIXED BY SPLITTING: this row named THREE OUTLETS AND GAVE ONE ADDRESS, and the chapter drafted from it could not tell them apart. THIS ROW NOW COVERS ONLY Iran International of 12 May 2023, the first report of the leak. It carries the 50 billion and the 'still being calculated' qualifier. IT DOES NOT CARRY the ten-year period, the military-and-civilian split as the chapter frames it, the September 2022 agreement, the 18 billion or the fifty-year term: all of that is SRC-094. THE LEAK ITSELF: documents taken from Iran's foreign ministry, attributed in the reporting to a group named 'Uprising till Overthrow', described as affiliated with the Mujahideen-e Khalq, an organisation with a declared interest in the subject. That does not make the documents false and it bears on how the figure is presented. PREVENTION, EDITORIAL: a register row holds ONE document. TWO THINGS THE CHAPTER DOES NOT CARRY AND MUST. FIRST, THE DATE: this is a MAY 2023 leak, more than eighteen months before the Assad government fell, and the chapter presents it beside a post-fall ministerial statement without distinguishing them. SECOND, THE MEASURE: the reporting describes funds SPENT supporting the Assad government over roughly ten years, in military and civilian forms, which is expenditure and not an agreed debt. ALSO REPORTED, NOT USED: a September 2022 agreement said to stipulate recovery of 18 billion dollars from Syria over fifty years, and roughly 11 billion dollars of oil supplied 2012 to 2021. The 18 billion is the only figure in this cluster attached to an instrument. PROVENANCE CAUTION: the hacking group is described in the reporting as affiliated with the Mujahideen-e Khalq, an organisation with a declared interest in the subject.
