The register keeps changing after the book is fixed in print. Each entry below was added to this row in the order shown.
OPENED, and it confirms the manuscript's claim precisely, including the interval. Published 21 December 2017, exactly one month after the interview at SRC-049, to the day. NO PERCENTAGE SHARE OF THE ECONOMY APPEARS ANYWHERE IN IT, for Makhlouf or anyone else. Makhlouf is described qualitatively instead: he embodied the regime-led mafia-style process of privatization; his economic empire was vast and he was the main shareholder of Cham Holding Company. The piece carries roughly 45 references and 9 numbered endnotes, against the interview's none. So the manuscript's account holds in every limb: he used the figure as hearsay, said so in the same sentence, and dropped it when he added citations a month later. Chapter 2 can now print this with both dates and both titles instead of disclosing it as unopened RE-OPENED 12 AUGUST 2026 under the D-030 gate before the redraft. THE ABSENCE HOLDS on a reading of the whole piece: no 60 per cent and no share of the economy for Makhlouf anywhere. Nine endnotes and a reference list. The percentages the piece does carry are about the confessional and social composition of the business elite. Makhlouf appears in words rather than in a share, as the man who embodied the regime-led process of privatisation and the main shareholder of Cham Holding. NOTE ON A COUNT WITHDRAWN: Chapter 2 v14 said 'forty-three references'. v15 does not state a count, because a stated count in front of a heterogeneous list is a class this project has got wrong repeatedly and the reference list is not delimited in a way that makes counting arithmetic rather than judgement. Naming rather than counting, per D-031's editorial tier. CORRECTED 12 August 2026 on finding D11 of the v16 diff review, a sibling survival of the second shape: the prose was corrected and the bare form stood on in this row. The generalisation that the percentages in the piece are about the composition of the business elite is FALSIFIED BY TWO OF THEM: 20 per cent of wheat bought in Raqqa and Dayr Az-Zawr given to IS, and 70 per cent of parliamentary deputies replaced in 2016. Most of the percentages concern the elite's confessional and social composition; not all of them do, and no claim in this book may rest on the universal form.
