Measure and scope
Share of a national economy controlled by one individual, Syria, 2010 to early 2011. No unit, base or method is given by any source that carries it.
Known conflict
Shaar suggests perhaps 6 per cent. Hamidi REPORTS a former economic official's figure of around 7 per cent for 2006, which the chapter now prints inside his quotation; the figure is the official's and not Hamidi's, and he is a journalist rather than a specialist publishing a calculation. Neither figure is established and the chapter adopts neither.

Action
All three now OPENED, 11 August 2026, and each corrected the chapter. Hamidi gives 7 per cent for 2006 not 2011, quotes a FORMER economic official, says much greater and not far greater, and carries no US$62 billion anywhere. The Daher pair confirms the manuscript exactly: hearsay declared in the interview of 21 November 2017, and the percentage absent from the footnoted version of 21 December 2017, one month later to the day. STILL UNOPENED: Al Jazeera and Middle East Eye, disclosed in the prose.
