Version history

The register keeps changing after the book is fixed in print. Each entry below was added to this row in the order shown.

  1. GATE ITEM E1, AND THE EARLIER BOOK IS ACCURATE ON EVERY FIGURE IT TAKES. Byline and date both confirmed: Moaffaq al-Khouja, 18 May 2026. THE FIGURES, VERBATIM AND WITH THEIR ATTRIBUTIONS, WHICH THE BOOK DOES NOT SEPARATE. Families delayed at the crossing 'for up to 24 hours'. One truck remained at the crossing 'more than six days', because a consignment was registered in the name of a man who had died and an administrator required his attendance. Shared large trucks cost 'between 400 and 500 US dollars according to the quantity of furniture' and private vehicles 'about 1,200 dollars', BOTH ATTRIBUTED TO A NAMED DRIVER, Maher al-Omar, of a Turkish-licensed company. The Istanbul to Aleppo figure is DIFFERENT IN KIND: 'according to what Enab Baladi observed', a large TIR truck 'reaches more than 2,000 dollars at times'. THAT ONE IS THE NEWSPAPER'S OWN, not a source's, and the chapter should say so. TWO FIGURES THE EARLIER BOOK DOES NOT CARRY, AND THEY ARE THE SHARPER ONES. Drivers and shipping companies are held fully responsible for consignment contents 'with threats of fines reaching 30 thousand dollars'. And a shipping company owner speaking under a pseudonym says bribes 'reach 700 dollars' in exchange for the inspection not being scrutinised. AND IT CONTRADICTS THE FAVOURABLE-ON-PAPER READING AT SRC-297. The crossing administration is reported to levy customs duty 'on everything that is new, or appears so, or customs are imposed on the entire vehicle'. METHOD, WHICH BOUNDS WHAT MAY BE SAID: this is testimony from truck drivers and one shipping company owner, two of them named and one under a pseudonym, at ONE crossing. It is not a survey and carries no denominator. THREE TO FOUR FAMILIES SHARE ONE VEHICLE, which is the reason assembling them all to collect goods is hard, and that is the mechanism behind the delays rather than the delays themselves.
