Volume of official corruption as announced by the Syrian government, nineteen months to August 2010, old Syrian pounds with a US dollar conversion at about 48.1 to the dollar. AUTHOR ARITHMETIC, added v8: 5 divided by 754 is 0.66 per cent as announced; 5 times 12/19 is 3.16 billion, divided by 754 is 0.42 per cent on a twelve-month footing. Neither is clean, the nineteen months running from about February 2009 so roughly eleven of them fall in the 2009 budget year, whose law is not held.
Known conflict
The reporting document declines to endorse the figure in the next two sentences: independent observers claimed the number was much higher, and Transparency International recorded corruption worsening. Both are now printed.
