Version history

The register keeps changing after the book is fixed in print. Each entry below was added to this row in the order shown.

  1. RETIERED 11 August 2026 under D-028 against EVIDENCE_PROTOCOL's six-level source hierarchy. The previous value was an ad hoc quality score on an undocumented scale. Tier now records SOURCE TYPE only; how far this project has checked the document is the Status column. Previous value: tier 2. JUDGEMENT: as SRC-031. Opened 10 August 2026 by rendering, the PDF carrying only 9 characters of extractable text. Dated 1 May 2023, which confirms the statement date the manuscript gives. Page 5 states verbatim: Non-civilian deaths: 340,674 people; they are distributed as follows, and then itemises regime forces 91,929, Russia Iran and regime-backed militiamen 67,349, rebel and Islamist factions 80,221, Syrian Democratic Forces 11,095, Lebanese Hezbollah 1,736, non-Syrian militiamen 8,700 and regime army defectors 3,596. The civilian itemisation runs onto the same page, including 916 killed by Turkish forces, 4,728 by ISIS, 444 by SDF and Kurdish forces and 226 under different circumstances. So the 340,674 non-civilian figure is confirmed verbatim and the civilian total of 162,390 sits in the same itemisation on the preceding page, which was not separately rendered RETRIEVED AND READ IN FULL 12 August 2026, closing the figures pass BLOCKER 2, WHICH DOES NOT HOLD AGAINST THE PROSE. Pages 3 and 5 rendered at 150 dpi. Page 3 verbatim: SOHR has documented by names the death of 503,064 people since the outbreak of the Syrian Revolution out of an overall death toll of 613,407 people whose death has been verified by SOHR in the past 12 years, precisely from March 15, 2011 to March 15, 2023. And: -Civilian deaths: 162,390 civilians: 121,407 men, 15,437 women and 25,546 children. Page 5 verbatim: -Non-civilian deaths: 340,674 people. 162,390 + 340,674 = 503,064 exactly. ALL FOUR FIGURES AT CHAPTER 1 LINE 214 ARE CONFIRMED, and the pass's proposed correction, to cut any that could not be found, would have removed four correct figures on the strength of this row's earlier silence. A finding that a figure is unverified is a finding about the register until a document is opened against it. ARCHIVE DEFECT: research/ holds two copies of this statement, differing in filename apostrophe and in bytes, both ten pages; the archive index records one.
  2. PATH GLYPH CORRECTED 17 August 2026: the row wrote a straight apostrophe or a hyphen where the file on disk carries a curly apostrophe or an en dash, so THE PATH DID NOT RESOLVE and the row could not be checked by anyone following it. The file is unchanged.
