THIS IS WHAT ISSUE 43 ASKED FOR AND IT SETTLES THE CHAPTER'S OWN OBJECTION. Issue 43 requires review of 'instrument, weighting, subgroups and bias'; this closes the instrument limb and leaves the other three open. THE THREE QUESTIONS ARE NOT COMMENSURABLE AND THE CODEBOOK SHOWS WHY. Q426, BINARY: 'Do you prefer to deal with people of your own religion/madhab/sect?' with two answers only, 'I prefer to deal with people who share my religion/madhab/sect' and 'It makes no difference to me'. THAT IS THE 66 PER CENT. SY_2025_80, FOUR-POINT: 'To what extent do you believe that people in Syria these days classify themselves and others on the basis of sect or religion?' Greatly / Somewhat / Slightly / Not at all. THAT IS THE 84 PER CENT, being the first two collapsed. SY_2025_79, FOUR-POINT PREVALENCE: 'How prevalent do you believe that ___ is in Syria today?' with items 'Sectarian discourse' and 'Sect- or religion-based discrimination', Very prevalent / Prevalent / Not prevalent / Not at all. THOSE ARE THE 85 AND THE 83. ALSO RELEVANT: Q425 asks which groups the respondent 'would not like to have as neighbors', a NEGATIVE framing, with 'Followers of a sect/madhab different to my own' among the items; and SY_2025_81 asks whether classification by sect is more or less than a year ago. SO A BINARY SELF-REPORT ABOUT ONE'S OWN CONDUCT IS BEING SET AGAINST GRADED JUDGEMENTS ABOUT THE COUNTRY AND ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE, and the distance between the numbers is at least partly the distance between the answer sets. D-059's prohibitions are unaffected: no causal claim, no national-tolerance claim, no binding-constraint claim. AMENDED 6 SEPTEMBER 2026 ON B-10 OF audits/reports/ch4v27_diff_review_2026-09-06.md. THREE STATEMENTS IN THIS ROW ARE SUPERSEDED AND ARE QUOTED SO A PARTIAL READING CANNOT REINTRODUCE THEM. FIRST: [quotation withheld, 11 words; follow the citation]. IT IS THE FIRST THREE OF FOUR, NOT THE FIRST TWO: on the Syrian base of 2,477 the counts are Greatly 679, Somewhat 947, Slightly 431, Not at all 209, do not know 129 and declined 82, so the first three are 2,057, which is 83.0 per cent unweighted and 83.7 weighted, and the first two are 66.6 weighted. SECOND: “THOSE ARE THE 85 AND THE 83”. THE SURVEY’S OWN PRESS RELEASE PUBLISHES 70 PER CENT for the prevalence of sectarian discourse, which reproduces as 69.2 weighted on the first two of four, and its Figure 31 row gives 34 and 36; NO 85 PER CENT FOR THAT QUESTION IS PUBLISHED BY THE SURVEY. THIRD: “THE SPSS DATASET IS HELD AND UNOPENED”. THE MICRODATA WAS OPENED ON 6 SEPTEMBER 2026, in its Stata form at research/Arab Opinion Index Syria 2025/aoi-data-2025-en-stata.dta, and the weighting and subgroup limbs are answered: THE SYRIAN SAMPLE IS 3,691 ROWS AND THE DESIGN IS A SPLIT BALLOT of three forms at 1,242, 1,235 and 1,214, Q426 having gone to one form alone and SY_2025_80 and SY_2025_79_1 to 2,477 and 2,449; THE Weight VARIABLE TAKES SEVEN VALUES BETWEEN 0.3 AND 1.0 WITHIN THE SYRIAN SAMPLE and is documented nowhere in the 95-page codebook, whose 206,613 characters contain no occurrence of weight, cluster, design effect, margin of error or post-stratification; WEIGHTING MOVES Q426’S 65.4 PER CENT TO 66.5; and the Kish design effect on the Q426 base is 1.0489, giving an effective sample of 1,177. THE FIELDWORK DATES ARE IN CONFLICT ACROSS THE SURVEY’S OWN DOCUMENTS and the conflict is now printed rather than resolved: the microdata date variable on Syrian rows runs 19 JULY TO 22 AUGUST 2025, the press release says 25 JULY TO 17 AUGUST, and the results announcement says 15 JULY TO 17 AUGUST.
