READ 16 AUGUST 2026, and it corrects a date the chapter carried from v1. FIELDWORK RAN 15 JULY TO 17 AUGUST 2025, verbatim 'Fieldwork was undertaken by more than 100 participants over 25 days from July 15-August 17, 2025, clocking in at more than 78,000 working hours'. The source manuscript at line 1173 gives 25 July as the start; THE 25 IS THE NUMBER OF DAYS. METHOD: 'a sample of 3,690 respondents representing every governorate ... selected through multi-stage cluster sampling', and 'more than 420 questions'. It is the first poll conducted inside Syria since the fall of the government. THE THREE FIGURES THE CHAPTER'S HYPOTHESIS RESTS ON, with their wordings as this announcement gives them: 66 per cent 'reported that they saw no difference in dealing with others regardless of their sect or religion'; 84 per cent 'believed that Syrians today identify themselves and others based on sectarian and religious affiliation'; 85 per cent 'reported that sectarian rhetoric is widespread'. Also 83 per cent on discrimination being widespread, and a range of 66 to 78 per cent on not minding neighbours of other religions, sects and ethnicities.
