RETRIEVED AND READ 22 AUGUST 2026, retrieval D1 of the Chapter 8 gate, through the Internet Archive. THE FIGURE IS CONFIRMED AND ITS SPEAKER IS NOW NAMED, which the source manuscript does not do. Verbatim: 'The Director of Corporate Communications at the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC), SAFWAN SHEIKH AHMAD, told Enab Baladi that current production stands at 7.6 million cubic meters of Syrian gas per day, in addition to 3 million cubic meters needed to fully cover daily demand.' TWO OFFICIALS DISAGREE INSIDE ONE ARTICLE, WEEKS APART. The same piece reports: 'Syrian Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir stated on 14 December 2025 that Syria anticipates its natural gas production to increase to 15 million cubic meters per day by the end of 2026, compared to approximately 7 MILLION CUBIC METERS CURRENTLY.' So the minister says about 7 on 14 December 2025 and the company's communications director says 7.6 in early January 2026. Neither is described as a revision of the other. AND THE DEMAND FIGURE HAS MOVED BY MORE THAN A FACTOR OF TWO, WHICH IS THE LARGER FINDING. This article puts the shortfall at '3 million cubic meters needed to fully cover daily demand', which against 7.6 million produced implies total demand of about 10.6 million cubic metres a day. SRC-312 records the Caretaker Minister of Energy stating in March 2025 that meeting daily existing power plant needs 'would require about 23 million cubic meters of gas and 5,000 tonnes of fuel oil'. TWENTY-THREE AGAINST ABOUT TEN AND A HALF, from the same ministry, ten months apart, with no stated change of definition. One of them is plant fuel need and the other may be total demand, and NOBODY SAYS WHICH. No Chapter 8 sentence may print a Syrian gas demand figure without naming the speaker, the date and what the figure is of. THE DOUBLING TARGET IS AN ASPIRATION AND IS ATTRIBUTED: 15 million cubic metres a day by the end of 2026, stated by the minister on 14 December 2025 against a base he gives as about 7. OTHER FACTS ON THE FACE: SPC began drilling a gas well at al-Tuwani north of Damascus on 28 December 2025, among previously discovered wells, expected to produce around 200,000 cubic metres a day, using a rehabilitated US-made rig named National and local staff; and contracts are described with four qualified Saudi companies including ADES Holding on oil production development and Arabian Drilling on new exploration.
