Verbatim: 'Only 40% of Syria's oil and gas wells are currently operating and producing, according to AYMAN AL-MARAI, DIRECTOR OF OIL FIELD MANAGEMENT AT THE SYRIAN PETROLEUM COMPANY. The operating wells produce about 130,000 barrels of oil and 6.3 million cubic meters of gas per day, while around 60% of the country's wells remain out of service, al-Marai told Enab Baladi.' He spoke 'while attending the SyrPetro exhibition in Damascus'. Source Chapter 7 line 2151 says that as of 14 July 2026 only 40 per cent of Syrian oil and gas wells were operating; that is this article's publication date and the claim holds. THE SENTENCE THAT MATTERS MOST IN THIS ROW IS THE ONE ABOUT COUNTING, AND IT IS THIS BOOK'S SUBJECT SPOKEN BY THE STATE OIL COMPANY ITSELF: 'He said the company DOES NOT HAVE PRECISE FIGURES ON THE NUMBER OF OIL WELLS IN SYRIA because some have naturally gone out of service, either after reaching the end of their' productive life. A percentage of operating wells is being published by an official who says his company cannot count the denominator. Any use of the 40 per cent carries that sentence with it. THE GAS SERIES IS NOW COMPLETE AND IT FALLS: 7.6 million cubic metres a day in early January 2026 at SRC-360, and 6.3 million in mid-July 2026 here, which is a decline of 17 per cent in about six months on the state company's own figures, and the later figure is the lower. The manuscript's characterisation holds. A FIELD-LEVEL FIGURE THE MANUSCRIPT DOES NOT CARRY: 'At the Jbessa fields in Hasakah, no more than 15% of the wells are currently operating', which al-Marai expected 'to rise to about 60% within two months', attributing the condition to shortages of machinery, pumps and technical supplies. AND A FORWARD CLAIM THAT MUST NOT BE READ AS A RESERVE OR A PRODUCTION FIGURE: on offshore exploration with Chevron, 'If exploration and development operations succeed, production could exceed 12 million cubic meters per day', with survey and study results available one year after work begins. That is conditional on success of exploration that has not started.
